We all enjoyed watching the Olympics and we are excited to see the Paralympics commencing!
Sport brings people together and after such a difficult 18 months it’s important to also support and celebrate our athletes closer to home. We recently caught up with Triathlete Ryan Coombs, who we are proud to sponsor, to see how his year has been so far and what challenges he has been facing:
” After a great year of personal development in triathlon in 2020, I was hoping to be able to bring this new found form into the 2021 season.
2021 started off very similar to most of 2020, with lockdowns. This caused little impact on me as I could still work and could also run and cycle. The only problem was not being able to go swimming! I knew coming into the 2021 race season (starting off in early May), I would only potentially have 4 weeks swim training but I was hoping I had done enough cycling and running not to worry!
My 2021 goals were:
– Gain some racing experience
– Race the English National Middle Distance Championships
– Race half Ironman Weymouth
I have gained a lot of invaluable experience racing this year. I raced 5 times within a month which taught me a thing or two – some major positives and also some things to work on.
Highlight Race Results:
Newbury Racecourse Half-Marathon – 1st overall and a new personal best
Cotswold 113 – placed 7th overall – with a new personal best
Eton Dorney Olympic Distance – 3rd overall – with a new personal best
English National Middle-Distance Championships – Silver medallist in my age group
I cannot thank Infrastar enough for their support. They have given me the opportunity to allow me to train with the best triathlon clothing available and the sponsorship has made a huge difference to my overall performance levels. The kit also makes the race photos look amazing too!
I still have one more race this year being Weymouth 70.3 – Half Ironman and then I will have a little time off to decide what my plans are for next season!
Athletes inspire people to get back out and participate in sports or to try something new. After such a long period of limitations, sport is a great way to support not only our physical health but also our mental health which is the most important thing.”
